Mary Magdalene was wrongly identified as a prostitute, should she now be recognized as a powerful priestess?

I have never heard this angle before, but it seems plausible. I have always understood that Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute, that this was something that the early church did to her because it was felt that she was too powerful and Jesus was close to her. The early churches way of putting women in their place and minimizing womens role in Christ's life and thus the church.
