Damage to car after being driven with the emgergency brake applied?

When I parked my car, I applied the emergency brake. When my mom went to back it down the driveway, she forgot to disengage the emergency brake, and continued backing down the driveway, with the brake still applied. The car was probably driven only about a quarter to a half a mile, but I want to know: Can the car suffer any serious damage from this, or do you think the car will be okay? (Btw, the car has an automatic transmission.) I did smell some smoke after she turned the wheel and got stuck and tried hitting the accelerator many times
