I need to downgrade my ipod touch 8gb mc model to 3.1.3 but it wont work?

When i try downgrading i put it into dfu mode and try to restore to 3.1.3 but it says error 3194. Then i tried that notepad thingy to redirect it to saurik's server but it made it worse. I need the downgrade because of my battery life and so i can jailbreak. How can i do it? I do have a laptop with Ubuntu lucid installed if that helps?
