Is it wrong to go to a funeral of someone you don't know at all?

I.E. Is it bad etiquette to go to a funeral of a person that you have never met in your life, nor any of their family, while going with complete reverence and respect for their loss? I want to go to a funeral to really get a better respect for death and life, but I don't by any means want to offend a family that doesn't know me. What do you think?
