If police receive a report on failure to stop for a pedestrian in crosswalk, do they usually do something?

If a pedestrian reports a vehicle that did not stop for them at a crosswalk, are the police likely to pursue it and give the driver a ticket? I am afraid that a pedestrian might report me (they had JUST stepped into the crosswalk). I've heard that sometimes when these kinds or reports are made, that the police don't do anything about it...
